CEDAR FALLS — Lucy Mae Bolhuis, 78, of Cedar Falls, died at home Thursday, Aug. 1, 2013.

She was born June 14, 1935, in Greene, daughter of Herb and Ella Hillegas. She married Chris C. Bolhuis on March 16, 1956, at United Methodist Church, Greene.

Mrs. Bolhuis was a graduate of Greene High School and attended Iowa State Teachers College (UNI). She and her husband farmed for many years in rural Cedar Falls. She also worked at Osco Drug Store, Von Maur, and The Coach House.

Survived by her husband; two sons, Chris (Patty) Bolhuis and Fred (Dee) Bolhuis, both of Cedar Falls; a daughter, Judy Bolhuis of Dike; 11 grandchildren; four great-grandchildren; a brother, Robert Hillegas of Nashua; and a sister-in-law, Dorothy Holmes of West Branch.

Preceded in death by her parents.

Services: 10:30 a.m. Saturday at St. John Lutheran Church, with burial at Hillcrest Cemetery, both in Cedar Falls. Visitation from 4 to 8 p.m. today at Dahl-Van Hove-Schoof Funeral Home, and for an hour before services Saturday at the church.

In lieu of flowers, memorials may be directed to Cedar Valley Hospice or the church.

Lucy was a great cook, enjoyed traveling with her husband on their motorcycle, and loved her family and friends.
