Lloyd F. Schares, 61, of Cedar Falls, Iowa, died Thursday evening, November 21, 1996, as a result of a single car accident near his home.

Lloyd was born on September 11, 1935, at his parent's home near Jesup, Iowa. He was the son of Leonard & Gertrude (Schmitz) Schares. Lloyd was baptized on September 13, 1935, at Immaculate Conception Catholic Church, Gilbertville, Iowa, and later confirmed his faith on April 6, 1948, at St. Athanasius Catholic Church in Jesup, Iowa. He attended country school near his home and later graduated from Jesup High School in 1953.

Lloyd worked for his dad at the John Deere Implement dealership in Jesup before going to work in 1954 for John Deere & Company, Waterloo, Iowa. On September 12, 1959, Lloyd was united in marriage to Harriet M. Giesking at St. Patrick's Catholic Church in Cedar Falls, Iowa. The couple settled in Cedar Falls until they purchased their present farm north of Cedar Falls. Lloyd retired as a Dyno-operator from John Deere on June 30, 1989, after 34 years. He continued to farm and doing custom work for others.

Lloyd was a member of St. Mary's Catholic Church in Waverly, Iowa. He also was a member of the Cedar Falls Fraternal Order Of Eagles, Aerie # 4074, where he was serving on the Board Of Trustees, and of the Cedar Valley Sportsman Club, where he was serving on the Board and was past vice president. Lloyd played in the Pool League for the Janesville Tap.

He was always on the go making a lot of friends every where he went. He and Harriet liked to travel and spent time in Germany. Lloyd enjoyed fishing, boating and camping and had a collection of John Deere equipment. He was always willing to lend a hand to a friend in need whether it was with farming or working on farm equipment.

Lloyd is survived by his wife, Harriet of Cedar Falls; five daughters and their husbands, Colette Assink and Mark Hagedorn of Ionia, Debbie and Bob Hanson of San Diego, California, Brenda & Scott Imerzeel of Janesville, Glenda & Mark Monaghan of Cedar Falls, Connie & Jeff Westmeyer of Janesville; eleven grandchildren and five step grandchildren; a brother and his wife, Donald & Joyce Schares of Jesup; and four sisters and their husbands, Lenora & James Youngblut of Jesup, RuthAnn & Les Keilholtz of Waterloo, Phyllis & Robert Schlorff of Plantation, Florida, and Shirley & Albert "Hutch" Hutchinson of Dale City, Virginia. Lloyd was preceded in death by his parents.
