Marion "Jim" David Dale, 73, of Martinsburg, formerly of Waterloo, died Sunday, June 9, 1991, at University Hospitals, Iowa City after a brief illness.

He was born Dec. 23, 1917, in Grinnell, son of Orville and Elsie Hasselbrink Dale. He mamed Marjorie Lois Farland in 1942. They were divorced in 1964. He then married Anne Marten. They were divorced. He was a salesman in Waterloo and later for Auburn Equipment Co Sayner, Wis. He moved to Martinsburg before retiring.

Survivors include his mother, Elsie Reed of Kellogg; a son, James Dale of Davenport; a daughter, Dianne Engel of Cedar Falls; four grandchildren, a brother, Dallas Reed of Chester; and two sisters, Lois Pickles of Kellogg and Betty Johnson of Salina, Kan.

He was preceded in death by a grandson, four brothers: Bill, Bob and Tom Dale and Arnold Reed; and two sisters Marguerite and Ruth.

Services will be 1 p.m. Wednesday at Hoover-Valentine Funeral Home Marengo, with burial in West Field Cemetery, Grinnell. Friends may call at the funeral home from 2 to 8 p.m. Tuesday and after 8
a.m. Wednesday.
