---------------
Joshua Newell, conductor on the Illinois Central road, who was taking a little trip north on the Rock Island Friday, passed away Saturday morning from his injuries. Death occurred at 8:30 and relieved the most terrible pain of anyone who was hurt in the wreck. After he was extricated from the ruins by rescuers a hasty examination showed that his left arm would have to be amputated. The member was ground to a pulp and a surgeon took it off above the elbow. Both legs were terribly shattered in the crash and the pain which he suffered was unbearable. He waa very brave however, and during the rescue work he told the men to go ahead and get out the other fellows, that he was alright. The report gained circulation that he died in the ambulance while on the way to the hospital, but his strong constitution stood the awful train until 8:80 Saturday morning when death came, and relieved his suffering.
