HUDSON - Robert C. Schaefer, 69, of Hudson, died Friday, May 25, 2007, at Covenant Medical Center following a massive heart attack.

He was born Dec. 30, 1937, in Waterloo, son of George and Bertha Stoehr Schaefer. He married Sue Klein on May 5, 1958, in Eagle Center.

Mr. Schaefer began working at Rath Packing Co. and later became a full-time farmer in Eagle Township. He was semi-retired but continued working part time at Lane Haven Farms. He also loved the Iowa Hawkeyes, golfing, fishing, camping and watching his birds.

Survivors include his wife; a son, Kevin (Debbie) of Marshalltown; four daughters, Amy (Steve) Paulk of Portage, Wis., Bonnie (Dennis) Gerloff of New Hartford, Jodi Schaefer of Hudson and Karen (Ron) Dillavou of Eagle Center; 15 grandchildren, Megan Fredrick, Leah and Kelsey Schmitz, Megan Ingle, Charlie Paulk, Allison Paulk, Suzanne Neuroth, April, Guy, Tessa and Sam Gerloff, Andrew, Gretchen and Thomas Schaefer and Allie Schaefer; seven great-grandchildren, Connor, Malea and Nickolas Neuroth, Jaxon Gerloff, Cayden Kressley and Wyatt and Veronica Ingle; a sister, Barb Weber of Hudson; five brothers, Jim (Bev), John (Sue), Harold, Carl (Janet) and George (Donna), all of Waterloo; a brother-in-law, Bernard Valenta of Delphi, Ind.; and numerous nieces and nephews.

Preceded in death by his parents; a brother, Richard; a sister, Geraldine Valenta; and a brother-in-law, Jim Weber.

Services: 10:30 a.m. Tuesday at St. Mary of Mount Carmel Catholic Church, Eagle Center, with burial in the church cemetery. Public visitation from 3 to 8 p.m. Monday at Hagarty-Waychoff-Grarup Funeral Service on West Ridgeway, where there will be a 4 p.m. rosary and a 7 p.m. vigil service, and at the church for an hour before services Tuesday.
