WATERLOO — Donna M. Smith, 78, of Waterloo, died Saturday, July 13, 2013 at Allen Hospital.

She was born Dec. 3, 1934, in Greeley, daughter of Elmer and Esther Schlagel Fry. She married Jack Smith in 1951, and they later divorced. She married Lyle Aswegan in 1986.

She was employed at Rath Packing Co., Chamberlain Manufacturing and later retired from John Deere & Co. She was a member of St. Andrew’s Presbyterian Church, where she served as a deacon, and was a member of UAW Local 838.

Survived by four daughters, Nancy (Matthias “Butch”) Franzen of Waverly, Susan (Mark) Smith of Cedar Falls, Trinda Dana of Waterloo and Annette (Gary) Schares of Jesup; six grandchildren, Jeremy Smith, Jeremy Schares, Matthias Franzen, Martin Schares, Drew Dana and Danielle Dana; and eight great-grandchildren, Ethan, Conner, Mollie, Genevieve, Eliza, Ava, Tyler and Hailey.

Preceded in death by her parents; her husbands; and a sister, Wanda Martin.

Services: 10:30 a.m. Wednesday at St. Andrew’s Presbyterian Church, with burial in the Garden of Memories Cemetery. Visitation from 4 to 7 p.m. Tuesday at Kearns Funeral Service Kimball Chapel and an hour before services Wednesday at the church.

Memorials may be directed to the family.

Donna loved to spend time with her family. She enjoyed crossword puzzles, sewing and working on her computer sending and receiving emails.
