Philip Andrew Temple, 79, of Irving, TX, died on December 7, 2005, at Baylor Medical Center at Irving. Philip was born in Cedar Rapids, IA, August 2, 1926 the son of Rev. Herbert D. and Mildred (Donat) Temple. He lived in Waverly, Dubuque, and Oelwein, Iowa, where he graduated from High School.

He married Florence B. Walker of Oelwein, on August 6, 1948, in Cedar Falls, Iowa.

He is survived by his wife of Irving; a son, Timothy Walker Temple of Urbana, IL; a daughter, Deborah Temple Witruk of St. Louis, MO; three sisters: Lois Hansen of Cedar Falls, IA., Ruth Kirkman, Lancaster, PA, and Miriam Temple, Iowa City, IA; and one grandson, Christopher Witruk, St. Louis.

Philip graduated from High School in Oelwein. Attended Cornell College, Mt. Vernon, IA, interrupted by 18 months military service during WW II in the Navy, for a time at the Brooklyn N.Y. Naval Hospital where he assisted sailors in completing High School through correspondence courses. The last six months of service he was attached to the Marine Corps Special Battalion of the 1st Marine Brigade. He resumed studies at the University of Iowa, graduating in 1950 with a B.S. in Mechanical Engineering.

He was a Registered Professional Mechanical Engineer. He began work in 1950 for the Home-O-Nize company in Muscatine, IA, now known as HON Industries. In 1973 he transferred to a division of HON called Corry-Jamestown in Corry, PA, and in 1987 transferred to the Corry-Hiebert division of HON in Dallas, TX, where he worked until retirement in 1990. He was a Vice-President of HON for 25 years. Upon retirement Philip and Florence continued to make their home in Irving, TX.

Philip was a Life Member of the Iowa, Pennsylvania and Texas Engineering Societies; Life member of the National Society of Professional Engineers and the American Society of Professional Engineers. He belonged to the Theta Tau Professional Engineering Fraternity, Omicron Chapter, Iowa City, IA. He was a member of the Cornell College Athletic Club "C" Club, and of the Cornell College Alumni Club of Muscatine County. He was President of the Kiwanis Club in Muscatine Iowa in 1964. He was on the Board of Directors for the Muscatine County Music Association.

He established the Philip A. Temple University of Iowa Charitable Trust in 1991 to provide scholarship support for Engineering students. He was a member of the First Methodist churches in Oelwein, Cedar Falls and Muscatine, Iowa, and the First United Methodist church of Corry, PA.

Philip played football and basketball in High School and college. He continued to enjoy sports and was an accomplished photographer. He especially enjoyed playing golf and attending professional golf tournaments. He enjoyed travel to Europe with his work for HON, including a trip on the Concorde.

Services will be 2:00 p.m. Wednesday ,December 28 at the Richardson Funeral Home in Cedar Falls, Iowa. Visitation will occur from 10 until service time with the family present from Noon until 2:00 p.m. Burial will be in Fairview Cemetery, Cedar Falls.
