Richard C. Freese, 83, of Dike, died Saturday, December 20, 2008 at his home in Dike.

He was born June 5, 1925 in Hardin County, Iowa, the son of Riebke and Effie Gieken Freese. He served his country during World War II in the Army Air Corp. On May 5, 1948, he was united in marriage to Wilma Noel at the Little Brown Church in Nashua.

He was employed at the Rath Packing Co. in Waterloo for 35 years until their closing.

Survived by his wife of Dike; three sons, Gary of Cedar Falls, Billy of Dike, and Ricky (Teri) of Brooklyn, IA; nine grandchildren; two great grandchildren; one brother, Arthur of Dike; and two sisters, Esther (Melvin) Purvis of Palmetto Beach, FL and Ethel Rhoades of Grundy Center.

Preceded by his parents; step mother; five brothers; and four sisters.

Services 10:30 a.m. Tuesday, December 23, 2008 at the Dike United Methodist Church, with interment in the Elmwood Cemetery, Dike. Friends may call from 4 to 7 p.m. Monday at the Richardson Funeral Home in Cedar Falls and also one hour prior to the services at the church. Flag presentation provided by Cedar Falls AMVETS Post.
