Lt. Vernon C. Ekberg, formerly of Waterloo, was killed in action while serving as a bombardier with the army air forces on Nov. 19, friends here learned Monday. Second Lieutenant Ekberg, who, formerly made his home at 413 East First Street, was employed as manager of the Maywood Lunch, 527 Jefferson Street.

He was the son of Mr. and Mrs. Nels S. Ekberg, Sioux Falls, S. D., and was graduated from the army air forces bombardier school at Kirtland field, Albuquerque, N. M,, before going on active duty. The crash in which he and nine other men were killed occurred near Drew field, Fla.
