Royal H. Ledtje, 88, of Janesville, formerly of Cedar City, died Friday, July 5, 2013, at Windsor Nursing & Rehab Center, Cedar Falls.

He was born Feb. 26, 1925, near Gladbrook, son of Ernest and Alice Brown Ledtje. He married Caroline Christensen on Dec. 14, 1946, in Waterloo. She died March 19, 2011.

He graduated from Waterloo West High School and served in the U.S. Army Air Corps during WWII. Mr. Ledtje worked at John Deere and Company for thirty-eight years, retiring as a tool and dye maker in 1983.

Survived by three sons, Alan (Elizabeth) of Cedar Falls, Kevin (Evelyn) of Janesville and Rick (Karla) of North Augusta, S.C.; two daughters, Leanne Ledtje of Janesville and Sherri (John) Ritter of Rochester, Minn.; 10 grandchildren; 16 great-grandchildren; four brothers, Bob of Elberon, Warren of Waterloo, Jim of Independence and Norman Ledtje, also of Waterloo; three sisters, Doris Aasgard of Waterloo, Gertrude Connelly of Pennsylvania and Arlene Schares of Gilbertville.

Preceded in death by his parents; two brothers, Ronald and Wilbur Ledtje; and a sister, Esther Ledtje.

Services: 1 p.m. Tuesday at Cedar Bible Church, with burial in Cedar Valley Memorial Gardens, both in Cedar Falls. Military honors will be conducted by Cedar Falls AMVETS Post 49. Visitation will be from 4 to 6 p.m. Monday at Dahl-Van Hove-Schoof Funeral Home, and for an hour before services Tuesday at the church.

A memorial fund will be established.
