Irene Ruth Handlen, 96, of Cochise, Ariz., formerly of Waterloo, died Sept. 22, 1991, in Cochise of natural causes.

She was born April 1, 1895, in McGregor, daughter of Jacob Henry and Mary Sass. She married Hollis H. Handlen. He preceded her in death.

Survivors include two sons, Arthur Handlen of Tulsa, Okla., and Charlie Handlen of California; two daughters, Gladys Handlen of Waterloo and Bernice Brunson of Arizona; 13 grandchildren and 24 great-grandchildren.

She was preceded in death by two sons, Hollis H. Jr. and an infant, George Ephraim.

Graveside services will be 2 p.m. Monday at Pleasant Grove Cemetery, McGregor. The body was cremated. Thornburg Funeral Home, McGregor, is in charge of arrangements.
