WATERLOO — John W. Jasper, 68, of Waterloo, died Wednesday, June 26, 2013, at Allen Hospital.

He was born July 12, 1944, in Waterloo, son of LaVere “Sam” and Catherine Cartney Jasper. He married Phyllis Shirley, and they later divorced. He married Marilyn M. Buhrow on June 9, 1990, in Waterloo.

He served in the U.S. Navy Seabees during Vietnam and was employed by John Deere Waterloo Tractor Works as an assembler for 30 years.

Survived by his wife; three sons, Jon (Lisa) of Clarksville, Tenn., and Scott and Marc (Victoria), both of Waterloo; a stepson, Rich (Brooke) Carter of Denver; a stepdaughter, Leah (Shawn) Topliff of Urbandale; eight grandchildren, Alexandra Jasper, Owen and Ethan Topliff, Jessica and Jaci Carter and Kolin, Makayla and Alyson Jasper; three brothers, Robert (Bonnie) of Waterloo, James (Margaret) of Maple Grove, Minn., and Don (Marg) of Waterloo; and a sister, Sue (Pete) Edmisten of Parker, Colo.

Preceded in death by a sister, Margaret Harn.

Memorial services 2 p.m. Saturday at Orchard Hill Church, Cedar Falls, with inurnment at a later date in the Iowa Veterans Cemetery, Van Meter. Military honors conducted by Cedar Falls AMVETS Post 49. Visitation from 4 to 7 p.m. Friday at Richardson Funeral Service.

Memorials may be directed to the family, Honor Flight or veteran-related programs.

He died peacefully after a long battle with lung disease.
