WATERLOO — Norma Kirkland, 86, of Waterloo, died Tuesday, June 11, 2013, at Cedar Valley Hospice Home

She was born May 8, 1927, in Waterloo, daughter of George and Grace Stafford Hurst. She married Edward Kirkland in Waterloo; he preceded her in death.

Mrs. Kirkland graduated from Waterloo’s West High School. She was employed as a department manager with J.C. Penney, then later at Palace Clothiers, where she retired.

Survived by a son, Ron (Jolene) of Evansdale; three brothers, Don (Elma) Hurst and Dick (Yong) Hurst, both of Waterloo, and Wesley (Charolette) Hurst of Pittsburgh; two grandchildren, Kami (Ben) Stroh and Kerri (Brian) Buehler; and three great-grandchildren, Sofia, Tommy and Olivia.

Preceded in death by her parents; and her husband.

No public services are planned at this time; they will be held later privately with family. Parrott & Wood Chapel of Memories, an Overton Family Service, is assisting the family.

Norma enjoyed gardening, traveling, she traveled the world. Together, Norma and Edward loved boating. They were charter members of the River Rats, now Waterhawks. Norma was an extraordinary person and she will be deeply missed.
