Opal Thatcher was born June 9, 1921, in Derby, Iowa, the daughter of Myron and Harriet (Buckingham) Thatcher.

She attended the Open Bible School for two years prior to going to Iowa Methodist Nursing School, both in Des Moines, in the 1940's. She had been a missionary with the Open Bible Church before being a nurse in a New York City Hospital, retiring in 1992.

She is survived by her sister, Sarah Plum of Grinnell, IA; niece, Dorothy Clayman of Sanford, MI and sister-in-law, Jeannie Thatcher.

Opal died Tuesday, August 26, 2003, at the Western Home Communities-Martin Center in Cedar Falls.

She was preceded in death by her parents and brother, Chester Thatcher.
