WATERLOO — Joyce Edman, 89, of Manorcare Health Services, Waterloo, formerly of Waverly, died Thursday, June 6, 2013, at Manorcare from complications of dementia.

She was born Nov. 3, 1923, in Centerville, S.D., daughter of Thomas and Gay Lunning Ostrem. She married Elden P. Edman on April 14, 1945, at Scandia Lutheran Church in Centerville. He died on March 1, 1988.

She graduated from Centerville High School in 1941. The couple made their home on the west coast while her husband was in the service. In 1947, they moved to the Beresford and Centerville area where they farmed. In February of 1960, they moved to Waverly where she worked for Infelt’s Variety Store and also Carnation (now Nestles) retiring following 20 years of service. She was a member of St. Paul’s Lutheran Church, Waverly.

Survived by: two sons, Steve (Anne) of Waterloo and Ron (Terri) of Oconomowoc, Wis.; 10 grandchildren; 15 great-grandchildren; a brother, Boyd Ostrem of Centerville, S.D.; and two sisters, Anna Mae (Norman) Nelson of Centerville, S.D.; Phyllis Larson of Beresford, S.D.

Preceded in death by: a son, Larry; a daughter, Sharon; a sister, Leone; and three brothers, Bob, Clarence (Bub) and Arnie and a brother in infancy.

Services: 11 a.m. Monday at Kaiser-Corson Funeral Home, with burial in Harlington Cemetery, both in Waverly. Visitation from 5 to 7 p.m. today and for an hour before services Monday at the funeral home.

Memorials: may be directed to St. Paul’s Lutheran Church or Iowa Hospice of Waterloo.
