Connie Aschbrenner was born April 5, 1926, in Conesville, the daughter of Ronald E. and Marjorie E. (Van Cleave) Robinson, both of Waterloo. She married Arvine E. "Bud" Hughes of April 5, 1946, on her 20th birthday. They divorced in 1954. She married Harold O. Aschbrenner on November 23, 1962,and they divorced in 1970. She moved to Phoenix in 1982 and spent her remaining days there.

She graduated from Cedar Falls High School in 1943. She was employed at the Cedar Falls Phone Company and later at the Waterloo Register. In 1949, she and her husband opened the Blue Room Tavern. While living in Phoenix, she worked as a candy and ice cream clerk at Smitty's grocery store.

Survived by her sons, Ron Hughes of Phoenix, AZ and Doug Aschbrenner of Chandler, AZ; daughter, Diane (Mike) Schmidt of Waterloo and Sue Hughes of Whittier, CA; eight grandchildren; two great grandchildren; and sisters, Delores Chase of Greenville, SC and Lorraine (Jack) Fairholm of Bella Vista, AR.

Connie died Thursday, October 28, 2004, at Phoenix Memorial Hospital from complications of her surgery with her four children by her side.

She was preceded in death by her parents; and grandson, Michael Schmidt Jr.
