WATERLOO - Retired Major Dennis Bernard Dray, 61, of Tucson, Ariz., formerly of Waterloo, died July 17 in Tucson of complications from cancer.

He was born Jan. 16, 1947, in Waterloo, son of Fredrick and Evelyn Thompson Dray. He married Jeanette Kathryn Spencer on Jan. 17, 1970, in Waterloo. They divorced in April 2001.

He retired from the Army National Guard as a major on March 1, 2000. He also served in the Navy during the Vietnam era. He was employed as a machinist at John Deere Tractor Works from 1974 to 1983 and after his retirement was employed by Quik Mart as a manager in Tucson.

Survived by his mother of Cedar Falls; two sons, Timothy of Avon, Ind., and Adam of Tucson; a daughter, Tina (Jason) Higgins of Waterloo; two brothers, Randea (Janice) of Grenada, Miss., and Jan (Rachel) of Cedar Falls; a sister, Cindy (Jerry) Keiderling of Buckingham; and five grandchildren.

Preceded in death by his father.

Services: 1 p.m. today at Garden View Chapel, with burial in the Garden of Memories Cemetery. Graveside military rites will be conducted by the Iowa Military Honor Guard.
