SMITH, MCCANE, STIBBENS, HILL

Raymond Smith Sr., 76. of 1416 Kimball Ave. died at 9:30 p. m. Monday at Woodlawn Convalescent Home. He had suffered a stroke in March, 1957, and been in ill health since. Mr. Smith had been a patient at the home for two months.

He was born Jan. 14, 1882, in Atlantic, son of Clarence L. and Anna McCane Smith. He married Sadie Stibbens on Oct. 14, 1908, in Red Oak. They came to Waterloo in 1914.

Mr. Smith was a long-time manager of the Quail & Co. investment firm in Waterloo. He was a member of Christ Episcopal Church; Waterloo Lodge No. 290, Elks; Chamber of Commerce, and a charter member of the Waterloo Optimists.

Survivors include his wife; a son, Raymond Jr., 3234 Waterloo Rd., Cedar Falls; a daughter, Mrs. James J. Hill. Camp Zama, Tokyo. Japan, and two grandchildren.

He was preceded in death by his parents and two brothers.

Funeral services will be at 10:30 a.m. Thursday at Christ Episcopal Church, with the Rev. Charles Gunnell, pastor, officiating. Burial will be in Elmwood Cemetery.

The casket will not be opened at the church, but friends may call at the Parrott and Wood Funeral Home until 10 a.m. Thursday.
