WATERLOO — Dale C. McAlpin, 84, of Rosewood Estate, died Sunday, June 2, at Cedar Valley Hospice Home of natural causes.

He was born Oct. 18, 1928, in Villisca, son of Willis and Christina Christian McAlpin. He married Marilyn Pittman on Feb. 12, 1950, at First United Methodist Church, Lohrville.

He graduated from Villisca High School in 1946. He then attended Iowa State University where he received a bachelor’s degree in ag science in 1950. Mr. McAlpin had a farrow-to-finish hog operation, raised Angus cattle and was a grain farmer. He retired from farming in 1992.

Survived by his wife; three sons: Alan D. (Marilee) of Cedar Falls, Jan W. (Judy) of Decatur, Ill., and Jerry F. (Sue Finzer Moor) of Knoxville, Tenn.; a daughter, Charlene (Paul) Ackerman of Waterloo; four grandchildren: Riley McAlpin of Waterloo, Christina (Matt) Carlton of New Hampton, Cliff (Kelly) Ackerman of Mesa, Ariz., and Stacey (Brad) Allis of Tucson, Ariz.; seven great-grandchildren: Benjamin, Payton, Paige, Preston, Parker, Tyler and Rylee; a brother, Tom (Edith) of Villisca; a twin brother, David (Peg) of Clarinda; and a sister, Marjorie Bush of Villisca.

Preceded in death by his sister Marjorie’s twin sister, Margaret Abarr.

Services: 11 a.m. Saturday at South Waterloo Church of the Brethren, with burial in Villisca Cemetery, Villisca. Visitation from 4 to 7 p.m. today at Locke Funeral Home.

Memorials may be directed to the church or Cedar Valley Hospice.
