Helen B. Conklin, 95, of Village Ridge in Marion, formerly of Waterloo, died at Village Ridge on Monday, April 7, 2008, after a short illness. Memorial services will be at 11 a.m. Thursday at the Walnut Ridge Baptist Church chapel in Waterloo. The Rev. David Moore will officiate. Private family burial at Waterloo Memorial Park Cemetery in Waterloo. Cedar Memorial Park Funeral Home, Cedar Rapids, is in charge of arrangements.

Survivors include a son, David Conklin of Cape Coral, Fla., and a daughter, Deborah Hileman of Pensacola, Fla. She is also survived by six grandchildren and six great-grandchildren. She was preceded in death by seven brothers and sisters.

Helen was born on Dec. 16, 1912, in rural Indiana, the daughter of William and Ollie Azbil Burnell. She married Caroll R. Conklin on Jan. 10, 1932, in Waterloo. He died in 1995. Helen worked at Black's Department Store in Waterloo for many years. She was a member of Walnut Ridge Baptist Church in Waterloo and attended Calvary Baptist Church in Cedar Rapids. Helen was an accomplished seamstress and enjoyed time spent with her friends and beloved family.

A memorial fund has been established in Helen's name.
