WATERLOO — Dr. Jack E. Tufts, 76, of Dahlonega, Ga., formerly of Waterloo, died at home Monday, May 27, 2013.

He was born Feb. 2, 1937, in Waterloo, son of Arthur and Blossom Cherry Tufts. He married Carol McEvoy on Nov. 24, 1962, at St. Edward’s Catholic Church, Waterloo.

He graduated from West High School, Waterloo, in 1955 and from Palmer College of Chiropractic in Davenport in October 1967. He practiced in Orion and Moline, Ill., and then had a practice in Bushnell, Ill., for 18 years. He was a member of Set Free Church.

Survived by his wife; three daughters, Christine Tufts King of Dahlonega, Stephanie Tufts Perotti of Bluffton, S.C., and Valerie (Tom) Tufts Ditzig of Charlotte, N.C.; two sons, Brian (Cristina) of Arlington, Va., and Ryan (Melanie) of Jefferson, Ga.; three grandchildren, Taylor (Adam) King Holtzclaw, Brice King and Dylan Perotti, with a fourth grandchild expected; two great-grandchildren, Kristen Holtzclaw and Aiden Holtzclaw.; two sisters, Beverly Tufts O’Rourke of Winthrop and Judy Tufts Hughes of Waterloo; a brother, the Rev. Terry Tufts (Carole) of Grand Rapids, Mich.; two sisters-in-law, Nancy (Jim) McEvoy Burns and Pam McEvoy Farr.

Services: 2 p.m. today at Dahlonega Funeral Home, with burial at Memorial Park Cemetery, Dahlonega. Visitation will be from 11 a.m. until services today at the funeral home.

Memorials may be directed to Hospice of Northeast Georgia Medical Center Inc., 2150 Limestone Parkway, Suite 222, Gainesville, GA 30501.

“Doc,” as he was affectionately called by his patients, was admired for his dedication to his work and family. He touched many lives both personally and professionally, receiving numerous awards, including a Red Cross Life Saving Award. Jack was an avid outdoorsman and enjoyed time with his family canoeing/kayaking, skydiving, motorcycling, boating and target shooting.
