WATERLOO — Rose Lee Ortmeyer, 93, formerly of Waterloo, died April 5 at Merrill Gardens, San Jose, Calif.

She was born April 1, 1920, in Lanyon, daughter of Frank I. and Esther Johnson. She married Donald William Ortmeyer in 1949; he passed away in 1993.

Mrs. Ortmeyer settled in Waterloo in 1956, where her husband established a medical practice. They later moved to the San Francisco Bay Area where she started the Orange Horse Gift Shop and Tea Room. She was a member of the P.E.O Sisterhood.

Survived by two sons, Charles (Kristie Turoff) of Alamo, Calif., and James (Nina Gentile) of Philadelphia; three daughters: Ann Ortmeyer (Jim Goodlin) of Los Gatos, Calif., Gwendolyn Ortmeyer of Sherborn, Mass., and Susan Ortmeyer (Jon Neff) of Ben Lomond, Calif.; a son-in-law, Steven Yale of South San Francisco; and 14 grandchildren and two great-grandchildren.

Preceded in death by her daughter, Jane Yale.

Celebration of life service: 1 p.m. June 15 at Willow Glen United Methodist Church, San Jose.

Lee could always be counted on to help those who needed her, and she was the hub for her extended family. She was the best Mother and Grandmother, and loved very much by her family and many friends. And in their regard for a good education, she and Don gave a priceless gift to their children and grandchildren.
