WATERLOO — Helen Marie DeWitt, 74, of Cedar Falls, formerly of Waterloo, died Thursday, May 16, 2013, at Allen Hospital of natural causes.

She was born Aug. 25, 1938, in Greene, daughter of Carl and Helen Ressler Gallmeyer. She married Richard DeWitt on Jan. 16, 1960, in Clarksville; they later divorced.

She attended Hawkeye Tech and worked in auto parts in Evansdale. She then worked in housekeeping and laundry services, retiring from ManorCare. She was a member of Alcoholics Anonymous for more than 35 years.

Survived by a son, Michael (MaryJane) of Abilene, Texas; two daughters, Lori DuCharme of Cedar Falls and Toni (Chris) Slaughter of Denison; five grandchildren: Wesley (Angela) and Matt (Alexandra) DuCharme and Joel, Elizabeth and Ryan Slaughter; a great-granddaughter, Michelle DuCharme; two brothers, Lee (Nedra) Gallmeyer of Oelwein and Galen (Kathy) Gallmeyer of Clarksville; and three sisters, Phyllis Steiber of Lansing, Barb Hilton of Marble Rock and Marlene (Ted) Stirling of Rockford.

Preceded in death by a daughter, Terri Lee DeWitt; two brothers, Claire and Ken Gallmeyer; and two sisters, Doris Jean Gallmeyer and Ruth Adelmund.

Services: 10:30 a.m. Wednesday at Trinity Episcopal Church, with burial in Garden of Memories. Visitation from 4 to 8 p.m. Tuesday at Parrot & Wood Chapel of Memories, and for an hour before services at the church.

Memorials may be directed to the family.

Helen enjoyed genealogy, jigsaw puzzles and reading. She will be greatly missed by all who knew her.
