CEDAR FALLS — Marion P. Durbala, 79, of Cedar Falls, died Saturday, May 18, 2013, at the Community Memorial Health Center, Hartley.

He was born March 8, 1934, in Albia, son of Frank and Margaret (Bins) Durbala.

After graduating from Albia High School, he spent two years in the U.S. Army, most of his time spent at Fort Leonard Wood in Missouri. He returned to Iowa, where he graduated from Drake University with a degree in accounting. He worked for 17 years with JS Latta and Co., Cedar Falls, as a controller and CFO. He moved on to become the financial director for the Area Education Agency 7 in Waterloo, before retiring in the late 1990s.

Survived by two sons, Douglas (Susan) of Spirit Lake and David of Mason City; a daughter, Dorian (Omar) Ayala of San Antonio; five grandchildren; two sisters, Jean (Joe) Hollinrake of Lovilia and Patricia Baldus of Ames; a brother, Robert (Suzanne) of Newton; a sister-in-law, Margaret Durbala of Newton; and a brother-in-law, Michael Fisher of St. Joseph, Mo.

Preceded in death by his parents; a brother, Thomas; a sister, Margaret Fisher; and a brother-in-law, Norm Baldus.

Graveside services: 1 p.m. Friday at St. Peter’s Cemetery, Lovilia. Visitation will be from 5 to 7 p.m. Thursday at Richardson Funeral Service, Cedar Falls. The Schuchert Funeral Home, Spirit Lake, is in charge of arrangements.

Memorials in lieu of flowers, may be given in his name.

During his active years, Marion enjoyed playing golf as often as possible, playing through the summer of 2012. He was also a highly competitive bridge player. He was a passionate reader of history books, particularly about World War I.
