[Waterloo/Cedar Falls Courier, Sunday, May 19, 2013]

"To be absent from the body is to be present with the Lord.” Her family and friends mourn the loss of Eva Ludden, 80, of Lakeland, Fla., formerly of Waterloo, who went to be with the Lord on May 4, 2013, following a traumatic head injury due to a fall.

Eva Josephine Oren was born on March 5, 1933, on a farm near La Porte City, to Grace Sexton and Charles Joseph Oren. She married Richard Ludden in 1950. They had four children: Lois Ruth, Mary Jean, Richard L. Jr. (deceased), and Janet Grace.

Eva received a Bachelor of Arts in Business degree from the University of Northern Iowa and an MBA from the University of Iowa. She served as Director of Human Resources for Lutheran Mutual Insurance Company in Waverly, and served as Senior Vice President at Citicorp for a number of years. She also was a consultant with Hay and Associates in St. Louis, and finished her career by serving as Vice President of American Trust and Savings Bank in Dubuque. She and her husband, Richard, retired and moved to Lakeland in 1998.

Eva loved life. She had many interests, including U.S. and world travel with Richard, reading and flower gardening, and spending time with family and her many friends. Eva and Richard took part in community and church activities, including plays, musical performances, and holiday events. She was a vibrant Christian who graciously ministered to the needs of others. Her husband, Richard, served in pastorates in Iowa and Missouri for many years, first with the Assemblies of God and then with Methodist churches. Eva was active in serving church members through hospitality and ministry. She loved to financially support Christian missionaries and outreaches at home and abroad. In retirement, she donated two years of her time to serve as human resources director for the missions agency Pioneers, Inc., in Orlando, Fla. Most recently, she provided hospice care in the Lakeland community.

One of Eva’s favorite scripture passages is Romans 8:38-39.

Eva was preceded in death by her parents; and, in 1977, by her beloved son, Richard L. Jr.

Eva is survived by her husband, Richard; daughter Lois Ruth Adkins (husband Darrel) and her children, Matthew and Andrea; daughter Mary Jean Brannon (husband Rod, and their sons Rudy, Richard, and Beau); daughter Janet Grace (and her children, Eva and Wayne); great grandchildren Maleigha and Westin; two sisters, Ruth Baker of Cedar Falls, and Jean Stoakes (husband Joe) of Kerrville, Texas; and extended family.

Graveside services will take place at 1:30 p.m. Monday, May 20, at Garden of Memories Cemetery, Waterloo. Parrott & Wood Chapel of Memories, An Overton Family Service, Waterloo, 232-3235.
