DYSART, IOWA — Davetta Potempa Capel, 92, of Dysart, formerly of Cedar Falls, died at home Tuesday, May 14, after an extended illness.

She was born Jan. 5, 1921, at Marble Rock, Iowa, the daughter of David and Jennie Love Thorton Meskimen. She married Felix Roscco Potempa. He preceded her in death. She later married Larry Capel; he preceded her in death.

Mrs. Capel graduated from Marble Rock High School and continued her education in restaurant management in Illinois. She worked for Lockheed, building airplanes in Santa Barbara, Calif. She owned and operated the Lodge Cabin Inn, Cedar Falls, and then Corn Patch Antique store with her sister. She moved to Dysart in 2000.

She is survived by two grandchildren, Dimita Freed and Paul Nelson; and a great-granddaughter, Meryia Love Freed; and a great-granddaughter.

Savetta was preceded in death by a daughter, Phyliss Love Potempa Turner; two brothers, Frank and Lewis Meskimen; and a sister, Alberta Sanders.

Memorial services will be held on Wednesday at Zion Lutheran Church, Dysart, with burial at a later date in Waterloo Cemetery. Overton Funeral Home, ysart, is in charge of arrangements.

A memorial fund will be established and may be directed to the family.
