WIDNER, STRICKER, THOMSEN SWEERING

Edna M. Widner, 99, of Evansdale, died at home Wednesday, Dec. 24, 2008 of natural causes.

She was born Sept. 27, 1909, in Gladbrook, daughter of Claus and Meta Thomsen Stricker. She married Edward Sweerin on Aug. 6, 1926, and they later divorced. She then married Ben E. Widner on Nov. 17, 1945, in Waterloo. He died Sept. 28, 1990.

Mrs. Widner worked at Rankins Manufacturing sewing tents during World War ll, then at Hinson Manufacturing, retiring after 17 years. She was then self-employed doing upholstery work in her home.

Survived by three sons: Melvin (Boots) Sweerin of Waterloo, Edward (Barbara) Sweerin of Evansdale and James (Brenda) Widner of Jesup; five daughters: Marlys "Tootie" Murray of Waterloo, Marty (Larry) Bockholt of Fairbank, Rolene (Ted) Whitesell and Darlene (Larry) O'Brien, both of Elk Run Heights, and Marlene Smith of Parkersburg; 28 grandchildren; 65 great-grandchildren; and 35 great-great-grandchildren.

Preceded in death by two brothers, Edward and Elmer "Bud" Stricker; a grandson, Tommy Whitesell; a son-in-law, Jim Smith; a daughter-in-law, Vivian Sweerin; and a sister, Elsie Ehrig Groth.

Services: 10 a.m. Monday at Faith Assembly of God Church, Elk Run Heights, with burial in Garden of Memories Cemetery, Waterloo. Public visitation from 3 to 8 p.m. today at Kearns, Huisman-Schumacher Chapel on Kimball, and for an hour before services Monday at the church.

Memorials may be directed to the family or the church.
