Mrs. Nissen graduated from Reinbeck High School in 1939. She worked at John Deere for a short time and was able to assist Warren in joining Deere upon his return from World War II. She was also very active in the St. Francis Hospital Auxiliary, where she served as president.

Survived by four sons: James (Cindy) of Wadena, William (Jenny) of Moneta, Va., Daniel (Laura) of Galena, Ill., and Jeffrey (Kandi) of Waterloo; 12 grandchildren; many nieces and nephews and great-grandchildren; a sister, Trude Gallagher DeBlasis of Fort Washington, Md.; a half sister, Joann (David) Heideman of Waterloo; and a brother-in-law, Robert Nissen of Iowa City.

Preceded in death by her husband of 70 years; a grandson, Sam Nissen; and a brother, James Gallagher Regan.

Services: 10:30 a.m. Friday at Hagarty-Waychoff-Grarup Funeral Service on West Ridgeway, with burial in Mount Olivet Cemetery. Visitation will be from 5 to 7 p.m. Thursday and for an hour before services Friday at the funeral home.

Memorials in lieu of flowers: may be directed to Cedar Valley Hospice.

Marie treasured her time as a mother and homemaker. Marie and Warren cherished their time spent with many loyal and lifetime friends. On weekends they could all be found “swing” dancing to the big bands in Northeast Iowa ballrooms. They were also avid card players.

The family would especially like to thank the caring and compassionate staff at Windhaven/Thalman Square and Cedar Valley Hospice.
