WATERLOO- Merlin L. Uhlenhake, 73, of Waterloo, died Monday, March 23, 2009, at Allen Memorial Hospital.

He was born October 20, 1935 in rural Decorah, IA, the son of Theodore and Mary Ann (Von der sitt) Uhlenhake.

He served in the United States Army during the Korean Conflict, and later owned and operated several restaurants and taverns in the metro area.

Survivors include four sisters, Delores Simmons of Cedar Falls, Alice Frana of Cresco, Lou Ellen (Dale) Chase of Waterloo, and Marilyn (Serjio) Fuggiti of Eagle Center.

Preceded in death by five siblings, Mourant, Mary, and Clarence in infancy, Lucille White, and Verla Adams.

Services will be held 11:00 a.m. Thursday at Sacred Heart Catholic Church in Waterloo, with burial in St. Francis De Sales Cemetery in Ossian. Friends may call from 4 to 7 p.m. Wednesday at Richardson Funeral Home, where there will be a 4 p.m. Rosary and a 7 p.m. Vigil Service. Visitation also for one hour prior to services Thursday at the church.

Memorials may be directed to the church.
