CEDAR FALLS — Barbara Jo Philipps Locke, 73, of Burbank, Calif., formerly of Cedar Falls, died Thursday, April 11, 2013, at Kaiser Permanente Hospital, Panorama City, Calif.

She was born May 4, 1939, in Pella, daughter of Donald H. and M. Florence O’Brien Nutting. She married Ted Philipps on Feb. 11, 1961, and they later divorced. She married John “Jack” Locke on Sept. 6, 1980.

Mrs. Locke graduated from Kaiserslautern American High School, Kaiserslautern, Germany, in 1957, and returned to Iowa where she attended Mount Mercy College of Nursing, graduating in 1960. She was a registered nurse for more than 35 years in various hospitals, mainly as an emergency room nurse.

Survived by her husband; two sons, Michael and Gregory Philipps; two granddaughters; two sisters, Margaret (Gordon) Walters and Nancy (Harry) Cohen; a stepdaughter, Debbie (Scott) Chin; two stepsons, Jim (Jessica) and David (Sarah) Locke; and two stepgrandchildren.

Memorial services were April 20 at St. Francis Xavier Catholic Church, Burbank.

Memorials may be directed to charity of donor’s choice in lieu of flowers.
