WATERLOO — George Lawrence Kerkove, 87, of the Western Home Communities, Cedar Falls, died Saturday, April 20, 2013, at the Martin Center.

He was born May 25, 1925, in Jesup, son of George E. and Elizabeth Terns Kerkove. He married Gladice Warner on Sept. 2, 1957, in Mantorville, Minn.. She died in 2001.

Mr. Kerkove served in the U.S. Navy, stationed in Guam during World War II. He worked at Rath Packing Co. for 41 years until it closed. He then worked as a Pinkerton security guard.

Survived by a son, Kelly (Tom) of Des Moines; and a stepson, Joe (Evonne) Birmingham of California.

Preceded in death by three brothers, Paul, Fred and Raymond; and two sisters, Isabelle Hazel and Margaret Carns.

Services: 10:30 a.m. Tuesday at Blessed Sacrament Catholic Church, with burial in Mount Olivet Cemetery, where full military rites will be conducted by Waterloo AMVETS Post 19 and Evansdale AMvets Post 31. Visitation from 4 to 8 p.m. today at Hagarty-Waychoff-Grarup Funeral Service on South Street, with a 5 p.m. rosary and a 7 p.m. vigil. Visitation also an hour before services Tuesday at the church.

Memorials may be directed to the family.
