WATERLOO — James Lee Powell, 70, of Waterloo, died Sunday, April 21, 2013, at Cedar Valley Hospice Home.

He was born March 19, 1943, in Waterloo, son of Virgil and Lydia Hartman Powell. He married Kathleen Haddeman in Waterloo, and they later divorced. He married Carol Van Biesen on Dec. 26, 1988, in Waterloo.

Mr. Powell was a 1962 graduate of Waterloo West High School. He was employed at John Deere Waterloo Tractor Works for 36 years, retiring in 1999.

Survived by his wife of Prairie du Chien, Wis.; three sons, Michael and Steven, both of Waterloo, and Scott (Kristina) of La Porte City; a stepson, Jeff (Traci) Magsamen of Janesville; a stepdaughter, Debbie (Kevin) Schaefer of Marshalltown; 15 grandchildren; and a great-grandchild.

Preceded in death by his parents; and two brothers, Jack and Bill.

Services: 10:30 a.m. Thursday at Cedar Valley Community Church, with inurnment in Garden of Memories Cemetery. Visitation from 4 to 8 p.m. Wednesday at Hagarty-Waychoff-Grarup Funeral Service on West Ridgeway, and for an hour before services Thursday at the church.

Memorials may be directed to Cedar Valley Hospice.
