DIKE - Roger O. Gutknecht, 94, of Dike, died Thursday, May 26, 2011, at his home.

He was born April 7, 1917, in Cedar Falls, son of Louis and Ella Runge Gutknecht. He married Patricia Bird Kent Sept. 22, 1962, in Decorah.

Mr. Gutknecht farmed in the Dike area, retiring in 1980.

Survived by his wife; two sons, Dennis (Barb) of Cedar Falls and Phil (Carol) of Redlands, Calif.; seven daughters, Delores (Jo) Ridder of Eldora, Bev (James) Ferguson of Georgetown, Texas, Margie (Steve) Pries of Nashua, N.H., Peggy Knight of Arlington, Texas, Mary Jo (Dennis) Grandon of Wellsburg, Marlys (Jay) Sharp of Wake Forest, N.C., and Paula (Charles) Carter of Centerville; 31 grandchildren; 22 great-grandchildren; and three great-great-grandchildren.

Preceded in death by a son, Gary; a grandson; and a sister, Pauline Multhauf.

Services: 10 a.m. Tuesday at Zion Lutheran Church, rural Hudson, with burial in church cemetery. Public visitation from 4 to 7 p.m. Monday at Dahl-Van Hove-Schoof Funeral Home, and will continue for an hour before services Tuesday at the church.

Memorials may be directed to Cedar Valley Hospice or Zion Lutheran Church.
