Feb. 1, 1926 to March 30, 2013

Don H. Meade, 87, of Waterloo, and Riverview, Fla., passed away Saturday, March 30, 2013, at Life Path Hospice, Sun City Center, Fla., of natural causes. He died peacefully in the arms of his wife Ruth.

Don was the son of Harve and Irma Meade. He is preceded in death by his parents; his sisters, Irene Wilson, Patricia Hofreiter and Helen Martinson; his grandson, Jason Garrett; and two nephews, Don and Bob Hofreiter.

He is survived by his wife of 61 years, Ruth (Seamans) Meade; three daughters, Terry (Jack) Garrett, Lisa (Tom) Jacobs and Susan (Jan) Steinmetz; five granddaughters Alison (Justin) Georgacakis, Katlin Garrett, Laura Steinmetz, Christine (Dale) Winter and Olivia Jacobs; three great-grandsons, Cheydon, Everett, and Declan Georgacakis; a nephew, Jay Martinson; and a niece, Linda Wilson.

Don graduated from Waterloo West High School, and the University of Iowa. He served in the U.S. Army during World War II in the 272nd Infantry Regiment, the 69th division. He married Ruth Seamans on July 15, 1951. Don’s passions included playing the harmonica, tennis, horseshoes and chess. He was an excellent salesman and enjoyed 30 years of retirement with his wife.

Memorial services will be at 2 p.m. Saturday, April 27, at First Presbyterian Church on Franklin, Waterloo. The family will hold visitation one hour before the services in Calvin Hall at the church. Interment will follow at Littleton Cemetery, Littleton.

In lieu of flowers, memorials may be given to First Presbyterian Church, 505 Franklin St., Waterloo, IA 50703.
