WATERLOO - Leona Spragle, 83, of Sergeant Bluff, formerly of Waterloo, died Sunday, Jan. 13, 2002, at St. Luke's Hospital, Sioux City after a lengthy illness.

She was born Oct. 22, 1918, in Bremer County, daughter of Edward and Emma Schellhorn Pothast. She married Francis A. "Shorty" Spragle on April 29, 1939, in Waterloo. He died Feb. 3, 1990.

Mrs. Spragle had been employed by the Waterloo Community Schools for 10 years, retiring in 1980.

Survived by a daughter, Sandra "Sandy" Haren of Sergeant Bluff; two grandsons; and two sisters, Verona Bailey of Little Rock, Ark., and Alice Sensing of Arizona.

Services: 1:30 p.m. Friday at First Luther an Church, with burial in the Garden of Memories. Friends may call from 4 to 7 p.m. Thursday at Chapel of Memories, an Overton Family Service, and for an hour before services Friday at the church.

Memorials may be directed to the church.
