John V. "Virgil" Osborn, 82, of Cedar Falls died Wednesday, Oct. 3, 2007, at the Cedar Falls Health Care Center.

He was born May 9, 1925, in Newton, son of Orville and Weltha Somerville Osborn. He married Marjorie E. Squires on Nov. 24, 1951 in Waterloo. Mr. Osborn worked primarily as a blade operator in road construction for Cedar Valley Corp in Waterloo, and Steffes Construction in Frederika.

Survivors include his wife Marjorie of Cedar Falls; four sons: Michael (Jean) Osborn of Sumner, Clifford (Lorrie) Osborn of Sun Prairie, WI, Duane Osborn and Tony Osborn, both of Cedar Falls; a daughter, Dianna (Daniel) Strauser of Elgin, IL; six grandchildren: Aaron (Courtney) Strauser of Washington, IL, Adriane Strauser of Elgin, IL, Joe Risse of Connecticut and Jonathon Osborn of Sun Prairie, WI, and Ben and Becky Osborn, both of Sumner, IA; two step granddaughters, Jennifer Reed and Erin Daschoak; three step great-grandchildren; two brothers, Tom (Donna) Osborn of New Hartford, and Dale (Carol Mae) Osborn of Cedar Falls; and three sisters: Jane Morris, Lilly Patnode and Naomi Pollock, all of Cedar Falls.

Preceded in death by three brothers: Leonard, Earl and Frank; and a sister in infancy.
