Helen L. Smith

Helen was born January 20, 1925, in Boone, Iowa, the daughter of Richard A. and Vivian (Blaine) Gaer. She received her Bachelor of Arts degree from Drake University in Des Moines in 1948. On September 10, 1949, she was united in marriage to Vernon E. Smith Jr. in Colorado. They were later divorced. She was a social worker for the State Department of Social Welfare in Black Hawk County.

She is survived by her daughter, Sara Jane Smith of Tucson, AZ.

Helen died Thursday, May 1, 2003, at Allen Memorial Hospital in Waterloo.

She was preceded in death by her parents.
