WATERLOO — Virginia Z. Ryden, 86, formerly of 3027 Cedar Terrace Drive, died Sunday Feb. 20, 2005, at the Chautauqua Guest Home, Charles City, of natural causes.

She was born Aug. 22, 1918, in Waterloo, daughter of Lotin and Maude (Yeager) Holcomb, She married Ernest A. V. Ryden on April 8, 1960, in Rock Island, Ill. He died June 15, 2004. Mrs. Ryden was a graduate of Waterloo West High School and had attended Gates Business College.

Survivors include two sons, Roger (Elaine) Wedeking of Charles City and David (Nancy) Lines of Canyonville, Ore.; 15 grandchildren and several great-grandchildren; and three brothers: Lava (Betty) Eastman of Plainfield, Robert (Louise) Eastman of Waterloo and Paul Eastman of Flagstaff, Ariz.

Preceded in death by two sons, Dennis and Lawrence; three brothers, Jim Holcomb, Gary and Richard Eastman; and three sisters, Clara Pattern, Orra Krie and Edith Rich.

Services: 11 am. Thursday at Kearns, Huisman-Schumacher Chapel on Kimball, with burial in Garden of Memories Cemetery Friends may call from 9 a.m. until services Thursday at the funeral home.
