Lowell Thalman

Lowell was born July 17, 1916 in Radcliffe, Iowa, the son of Levi Conrad and Edith Cornelia (Wahl) Thalman. Lowell lived in Iowa Falls from 1921-1925, and graduated from Cedar Falls High School in 1934. He received his B.A. degree from the State College of Iowa in 1938, and attended the State University of Iowa for Junior High School Administrative Graduate Study in 1940.

He married Marquerite R. (Peggy) O'Neale in 1943 in Annapolis, MD. He served as a Junior and Senior High School instructor at Fontanelle, IA and as a Quality Control Supervisor for the Glenn L. Martin Company, Baltimore, MD. In 1946, Lowell became a partner in Lincoln Press, which merged with Latta's Inc. in 1960, and later changed its name to Control-o-Fax Corporation in 1973, where he was Vice President and Treasurer until his retirement in 1982. Lowell and Peggy moved into Windgrace Retirement Center in 1991.

Lowell was actively involved in numerous interests: He was a long-time member of Trinity United Methodist Church, Cedar Falls and served on the Board of Trustees; he was involved with the Western Home, serving as President and a member of the Board of Directors and Foundation Board; was a member of the Board of Trustees for Westmar College; was on the Board of Directors for Sartori Health Care Foundation and for the United Way, he was also President of the Printing Industries of Iowa, was a member of the Cedar Falls Kiwanis Club and a member of Nazareth Lutheran Church.

He is survived by his three sons, Dr. Lowell William "Bill" Thalman and his wife, Sharon of West Des Moines, Robert Leroy Thalman and his wife, Barb of Dike and Ronald Keith Thalman of Cedar Falls; five grandchildren: Meri Jo Wiese, Timothy, Michael, Aric and Shaun Thalman; five great-grandchildren, Nichole and Tyler Wiese and Emily, Abigail and T.J. Thalman and sister, Anita Frankhauser of Cedar Falls.

Lowell died Sunday, April 4, 2004 at the Western Home Communities in Cedar Falls.

He was preceded in death by his wife, Peggy on January 20, 2002.
