Ruth H. Wilcox

Ruth was born January 16, 1926, on the family farm in Poweshiek County, Iowa, the daughter of Milo A. and Helen (Winslow) Ryan.

On December 24, 1950, she was united in marriage to Keith R. Wilcox at Grace United Methodist Church in Waterloo. She began teaching in a country school at the age of 17. She then went on to get her teaching certificate from Iowa State Teachers College and taught in Waterloo Winterset and Toddville schools. She received her BA degree from the University of Northern Iowa in 1969 and finished her teaching career at Roosevelt Elementary in Waterloo, retiring in 1987. Following retirement, she was active with the Cedar Falls Historical Society.

She is survived by her husband, Keith of Cedar Falls; two sons, Peter J. (Kim) and Steven W., all of Cedar Falls; daughter, Susan J. Wilson of San Antonio, TX; grandson, James O. Wilson of San Antonio, TX; brother, Jim Ryan of Toledo, IA and sister, Myrtis Upah of Amana, IA.

Ruth died Monday, June 14, 2004, at Allen Memorial Hospital in Waterloo. She was preceded in death by her parents and daughter, Anne Elizabeth Wilcox in 1960.
