WATERLOO — Ruth E. Gaffney, 67, of Waterloo, died Wednesday, April 10, 2013, at Covenant Medical Center.

She was born March 8, 1946, in Waterloo, daughter of John and Mary Tyler Burch.

She married Ron “Shorty” Gaffney in 1967 in Waterloo and they were later divorced.

Ruth was employed with the Black Hawk County Home and later with Means Towel Service, later known as Aramark, she also tended bar at the Welcome Inn for many years.

Survivors include her boys, Geoff Gaffney of Waterloo, John (Kathy) Maynard of Wichita Falls, Texas, David (Anne) LeClair of State Center and Duane Ploof of Nebraska City, Neb.; two brothers, Dave (Sally) Burch and Ron (Judy) Burch, all of Waterloo; a granddaughter, Crystal Gaffney; two great-granddaughters, Brooklyn and Mia Gaffney and another on the way and several nieces and nephews.

Preceded in death by a son, Jay D. Gaffney; a stepsister, Evelyn Lehman and two stepbrothers, Bill and Jack Burch.

Services will be 1 p.m. Monday at Hagarty–Waychoff–Grarup Funeral Service on West Ridgeway with burial in Memorial Park Cemetery. Public visitation will be from 3 to 7 p.m. Sunday at the funeral home and for an hour before services on Monday.
