Jean M. Penaluna, 90, passed away on Monday, April 8, 2013, at home in Albuquerque, N.M., from complications of cancer.
Jean was born on April 21, 1922, in Waterloo, the daughter of Orvil and Mildred Huston. Jean was preceded by the death of her husband, her parents, brother Forey Huston and sister Mariam Alexander. Jean grew up in Waterloo and graduated from West High School and attended the University of Iowa.
Jean married Robert F. (Penny) Penaluna on Aug. 23, 1943, in Waterloo. They moved to Fort Myers, Fla., where they resided during World War II. After the war they moved back to Waterloo where they raised their three children, Cathie (Don) Sorensen of Albuquerque, N.M., Sue (Jim) Gorsh of Clinton and Tom (Ginger) Penaluna of Cedar Falls. Once their children were out of school they retired and returned to Fort Myers, Fla., until Penny passed away on Jan. 8, 2000. Jean then moved to Albuquerque, N.M. to be close to her daughter, Cathie.
Jean had eight grandchildren and 13 great-grandchildren.
Memorial services were held in Albuquerque on Wednesday, April 10, 2013, and there will be a family inurnment service at Memorial Park Cemetery at a later date.
