CRUSHED UNDER BIG LOAD
ED WHITTIER MET DEATH SATURDAY IN ELDORA
Edward Whittier, a former Waterloo boy and son of Mr. and Mrs. John Whittier, was accidentally killed at Eldora, Iowa, on Saturday. He had been at work hauling coal and while standing on the ground after loading the wagon his team started to run away. He rushed to the front of the wagon and grasped the lines. Just as he did so he missed his footing and fell in such manner the wheels of the heavily loaded vehicle passed over his chest, crushing him in such manner that he died almost instantly.
The remains were taken to Oelwein for interment where the services were held Monday forenoon.
John Whittier was a driver for the Waterloo Fruit and Commission Company last fall.
