Joseph P. Cunningham, 94, of Cedar Falls, died Friday, November 24, 2006, at Allen Memorial Hospital in Waterloo.

He was born February 22, 1912 in Des Moines, Iowa. Joe married Mary Aelmans on May 12, 1935 at St. Patrick Catholic Church in Cedar Falls. She preceded him in death on January 7, 1985.

Joe was a farmer for twenty years and worked at John Deere & Company in Waterloo for twenty-five years, retiring in 1975. He was a former member of the Cedar Falls Knights of Columbus and the UAW Local 838. Joe was also a member of the St. Patrick Shamrocks.

Survivors include three sons: Gene (Harry E.) (MaryAnn) Cunningham of Wellsburg, and Jon (Sue) Cunningham and Michael Cunningham, both of Cedar Falls; a daughter, Sue Ayres, of Cedar Falls; nine grandchildren, fifteen great grandchildren and two great great grandchildren; and a sister, Mary Elizabeth “Betty” Roseberry of Greene, Iowa.

Joe was preceded in death by his mother, Anne Cunningham, his wife, a grandson, and three brothers, James, Phillip and Patrick Cunningham.

Funeral Mass will be 10:00 am Tuesday, November 28, 2006, at St. Patrick Catholic Church, with interment at Greenwood Cemetery, both in Cedar Falls. Visitation will be 4—7:00 pm Monday at Dahl-Van Hove-Schoof Funeral Home, where a 4:00 pm Rosary Service and a 7:00 pm Vigil Service will be conducted, and visitation one hour before the service at the church. Memorials may be directed to St. Patrick Catholic Church.
