CEDAR FALLS — F. Pauline West, 98, of Cedar Falls, formerly of Waterloo, died Sunday, April 7, 2013, at Martin Health Center of Western Home Communities of natural causes.

She was born Dec. 30, 1914, in Aledo, daughter of Boyd E. and Mabel C. Field Brown. She married Robert C. West on May 16, 1937, in Ames. He died May 31, 2001.

Mrs. West graduated from high school in Aledo in 1931 and received a teaching certificate from Monmouth College, Monmouth, Ill. She taught school in Mercer County, Ill., for three years and was a substitute teacher in Waterloo. She had worked at J.C. Penney Co., Waterloo, from 1937 to 1976, when she retired. She was a member of St. Paul’s United Methodist Church; was past president of Lincoln Elementary PTA and also council president; was a 50-year member of the Waterloo Chapter of the Order of Eastern Star and White Shrine; was past Worthy Matron of Star and past Worthy High Priestess of White Shrine and Iowa Grand Officer in 1986; and was a 40-year member of the Daughters of American Revolution (DAR) Regent for the Waterloo Chapter and a member of Daughters of the Nile.

Survived by two sons, Gary E. (Bev Gustavson) of Rochester, Minn., and Charles E. (Diana) of Olin; two grandsons, Daniel (Patti) West of Evans, Ga., and Jeffrey West of Waterloo; and two great-granddaughters, Marissa Jo and Lindsay Mae West.

Preceded in death by six brothers: Frank, Robert, Dorrence, Loren, Harold and Richard Brown; and two sisters, Lena M. Comben and Audrey Brown

Services: 2:30 p.m, Saturday at Locke Funeral Home, with burial in Garden of Memories Cemetery, both in Waterloo. Visitation from 4 to 7 p.m. Friday at the funeral home, with 5:30 p.m. Order of Eastern Star service and 6:30 p.m. Daughters of the American Revolution (DAR) service.

Memorials may be directed to St. Paul’s United Methodist Church or Western Home Communities.
