EVANSDALE — Steven Charles Bard, 59, of Evansdale, died Monday, April 8, 2013, at Covenant Medical Center ICU, Waterloo.

He was born Aug. 12, 1953, in Waterloo, son of Merle and Donna Lampert Bard. He married Mary A. Hilts on June 21, 1997, at the Little Brown Church, Nashua.

Mr. Bard graduated from Waterloo East High School in 1971 and was a U.S. Marine Corps veteran of the Vietnam War. He was a correctional sergeant with the Washington State Correction Center for 30 years, taking a medical retirement in 2008. He was a member of the Fraternal Order of the Eagles Court 764.

Survived by his wife; his mother-in-law, Winnie Rossow of Washington; a stepson, David (Janelle) Ray of Washington; a sister, Brenda (Jack) Henninger of Waterloo; four grandchildren, Sean, Leif, Erik, Morgan, and one on the way; two nephews, Travis and Jared Burch; a niece, Amanda Burch; a great-niece, Paityn Burch; a brother, Dennis of Nevada; his stepmother, Helen Hoffer of Cedar Falls; a stepbrother, David (Cheryl) Eilers of Cedar Rapids; and a stepsister, Diane (Lowayne) Kinzebach of Cedar Falls.

Preceded in death by his parents; and his stepfather, John Hoffer.

Services: 11 a.m. Friday at Hagarty-Waychoff-Grarup Funeral Service on South Street, Waterloo, with inurnment at a later date. Visitation from 4 to 7 p.m. Thursday at the funeral home, with a 6 p.m. Eagles ceremony. Visitation also an hour before services Friday. Full military rites will be conducted by American Legion Post 138 and VFW Post 1623, assisted by the U.S. Marine Corps Honor Guard.
