Robert F. Ziegler Dies In Accident; Services Thursday

Funeral services for Robert F. Ziegler, 27, a student at the University of Iowa, will be held Thursday morning, October 21, at 9:30 a.m., at St. Edwards Catholic Church, Waterloo with burial in Mt. Olivet Cemetery.

He was killed in a one-car accident near Iowa City early Saturday morning. His death was caused by internal injuries.

He was born March 1, 1944 in Waterloo, the son of Frank and Coretta Hayes Ziegler.

He attended school in Hudson and graduated with the class of 1962, He served in the Air Force from 1964 to 1968 and spent a tour of duty in Viet Nam. He was stationed in Greece for a year and a half.

Survivors include his parents, one brother, Ronald of Waterloo and his maternal grandmother, Mrs. Anna Hayes of Waterloo.

Robert F. Ziegler, 27, of Waterloo died in a one-car crash about 3:45 a.m. today at Scott's Corner, the intersection of American Legion Road and Highway 6.

He was a University of Iowa student and employed at Veteran's Hospital here.

Patrolmen said his auto was eastbound on the American Legion Road when he apparently fell asleep at the wheel. The intersection is a broad "Y" and after the vehicle crossed the intersection it struck an embankment said officers. Scott's Comer is about four and a half miles southeast of Iowa City.

His body was taken to the George L. Gay Funeral Home. The patrol was attempting to locate his parents who are vacationing in the Appaiachian Mountains.
