Wilber "Mike" Baker, 76, of 1300 Byron Ave., died Wednesday, Oct 5, 1994, at Covenant Medical Center from complications of emphysema.

He was born July 14, 1918, in Big Grove Township, son of Charlie and Sophia Hansen Baker. He married Louene Weber on March 20, 1954.

Mr. Baker was employed at Hawkeye Steel for 27 years retiring in 1980. He was past president of Local 459 and of Hook & Liner Sportsman Club. He was a U.S. Army veteran of World War II and was staff sergeant of First Special Service Force.

Survived by his wife; a son, John of Waterloo; a daughter, Julie Ann Baker of Cedar Rapids; two stepdaughters, Donalee Smuck and Diane Rodden, both of Waterloo; six grandchildren and two great-grandchildren.

Preceded in death by a brother, Roy S.

Services: 10:30 a.m. Monday at Sacred Heart Catholic Church, with burial in Waterloo Cemetery. Full military rites will be conducted b Post 138 and Veterans of Foreign Wars Post 1623. Friends may call from 2 to 9 p.m. today at Oppold-Hagarty Funeral Home, where there will be a 3 p.m. rosary and a 7:30 vigil service.
