DANE, MUMPER, HOLDEN, EDSILL, DANIELS

Burton Dane, age 93, passed away on Wednesday, March 27, 2013.

He was born on August 19, 1919, in Orange Township, Blackhawk county, Iowa, the son of Charles and Mary (Mumper) Dane. He married Bonnie Edsill in 1943, and they enjoyed 53 years together, until her death in 1996.

Dad proudly served in the Army Air Force from 1942 to 1945. He was stationed in the 448th Bomb Group of the 712th Bomb Squadron. He was Master Sergeant/Squadron Crew Chief of a B-24 bomber in the 8th Air Force. He was awarded the bronze star for meritorious service.

After his honorable discharge, he returned to Waterloo where he worked for the United States Post Office as a letter carrier until his retirement in March, 1978. He also was employed by the Waterloo Courier for 17 years.

In 1978, Burton and Bonnie moved to Bentonville, Arkansas, where they both enjoyed traveling and gardening.

Burton is survived by his three children: Colleen (Howard) Holden of Urbandale, Iowa, Douglas (Nancy) Dane of Belton, Missouri, and Dennis Dane of Siloam Springs, Arkansas; six grandchildren; five great-grandchildren; his brother, Jack (Joan) Dane; and numerous nieces and nephews.

He was preceded in death by his wife, Bonnie, and his sister, Frances Daniels.

Burton was cremated, and a memorial service will be held in the Waterloo area in April.
