[Waterloo Courier, Sunday, March 24, 2013]

Gene Daryl Geiger, 73, passed away peacefully at his home on March 23, 2013. He was born on March 6, 1940, in Vinton, Iowa. He attended East High School and proudly served in the United States Navy. After his service, he returned to Waterloo where he has been a lifelong resident.

Gene enjoyed being self-employed in a variety of businesses where he liked to help his employees and customers. He was often affectionately referred to as “Mr. Geiger” by return customers and even a “second dad” to many of his employees. He rarely missed an opportunity to be working and interacting with people at his shop.

He is preceded in death by his parents and one sister.

Survivors include his wife, Mary Ann Geiger, his brother, Jim (Dianna) Geiger, his children, Mark (Lisa) Geiger, Dawn Geiger, Bret (Georgia) Geiger, Ilene Geiger and Debbie (Rocky) Rochau, Jim (Lisa) Geiger, eleven grandchildren, one great-grandchild, and his best friend, companion and black lab, Trapper.

Visitation will be held on Wednesday, March 27, 2013, from 5 to 7 p.m. followed by a rosary at 7 p.m. at Hagarty-Waychoff-Grarup Funeral Service, 300 W. Ridgeway, Waterloo, Iowa 50701. Funeral services will be at 10:30 a.m. on Thursday, March 28, 2013, at Queen of Peace Catholic Church, 320 Mulberry Street, Waterloo, Iowa 50703.
